  • Spring run off.
  • Areas to push snow that accumulates.
  • Keep your builder involved from site plan through design. It helps keep the project running smoothly.
  • Design what you can afford to build.

  • House located 3 to 4 steps above ground to accommodate snow
  • All decks covered or exposed decks on gable end only
  • Glass works best on South to East exposure
  • Less glass on the North side
  • Locating kitchen on East side allows for morning sun
  • Bedrooms located on the North side are cooler in the summer
  • Large mudrooms
  • Fireplace or wood stove chimney in center of ridgeline not on bottom of roof
  • Consider cedar siding or stucco
  • Large roof overhangs

  • Shared road, power (transformers) with neighbors
  • Don’t develop your property /lot until you have designed your house
  • Septic system goes in after foundation
  • Don’t over excavate for your house
  • To get early spring start you can do water, power, sewer, road and foundation in the fall
